Local government and its tourism policy : exemple of border area

A border area is also referred to as a borderland or a cross-border area. Local governments responsible, among other things, for the implementation of local policies play a pivotal role in the development of such areas. A border area is very specific and it has a conducive environment to develop a local tourism policy. Therefore, in border regions, local governments focus their attention on the development of qualified or heritage tourism. Since tourism helps to diversify the local economy, which is particularly important in border areas, while implementing their local tourism policy, local governments should promote local tourism products. These include natural, cultural and social attractions, supported by general and tourist infrastructure, as well as service and transport accessibility. Promotion of the products should be preceded by an in-depth examination of natural, cultural and tourism resources.
