In modern management, we are constantly looking for the possibility of discovering previously unknown rules that will improve the applied procedures or standards and speed up the process of identifying problems in the management system. On the other hand, modern times are an era of information. Therefore, the improvement of the information system (as a crucial part of the management system) is beginning to be a key issue from the perspective of further development of organizational science. In this context, a proposal for the concept of “progressor” is presented. Progressor is a tool for the typification of information systems (belonging to a broad group of diverse entities) due to similarities of problems shaping them. The typification divides them into cohesive groups requiring improvement of a similar nature. The precise identification of the type of a specific system (based on a set of its characteristic features or markers) allows for speeding up the process of its improvement while guaranteeing the relevancy of the actions taken. The article contains an analysis of statistical and organizing methods which together form a coherent methodology allowing for the concept of “progressor” to be applied in the practice of consulting.
